The Current Entertainment Strike in Hollywood

On one hand I feel for the actors and writers currently on strike in Hollywood. I did some acting as an extra in the early 2010s when I was employed. I appreciate how they feel about the long waits for work. How little there is and the long hours involved.

On the other hand I think they are on the wrong side of history. AI is going to change their industry and there is nothing is going to stop that Firstly, the creation of films will move to where the film companies aren’t bound by the same agreements. For years less and less are being made in California. Countries and other US states know it is potentially profitable so are increasing offering tax breaks.

I agree with the unions that AI is a big threat to their members’ livelihoods. They may slow up its use but they aren’t going to stop its use.

They also have a valid point that their members are paid a pittance when compared to the film companies’ management. But the film companies are bleeding money due to the streaming wars. That can’t go for ever so either they must merge or go bankrupt. Disney is currently the one in the headlines due to the number of big box office failures that it has had.
